Thursday Throwback: 1994 Halloween Violence

These days, we have a more sanitized version of Halloween.

But in the old days, we had the treats, but we also had the “tricks.”

For our Thursday Throwback, we take you back to 1994, to a Halloween tradition in the Falling Water community.

Forty years ago, we sent a crew to a house fire and they got caught up in a web of arson and racism.

Halloween has a complicated history.

But it goes back to when the Catholic Church moved All Saints Day to autumn.

The night before became “All Hallows Eve” and was celebrated with pranks and resolving grudges.

In the United States, Halloween also featured cases of vandalism and arson.

Only in the 1950’s, did we start the tradition of door-to-door trick or treating.
