Police say man claims he was defending himself from a truck driver who assaulted him

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Police now say a traffic confrontation led to the fatal shooting on I 24 yesterday.

Their preliminary report says a semi-truck cut off a car and blocked it against a construction barrier near Germantown Road.

Police say the truck driver got out and began assaulting the car driver.

The sedan driver then shot the truck driver and called 911.

He was still alive when police arrived, but died later at the hospital.

The truck driver was from New York and the sedan driver from Georgia.

Police are still investigating the self-defense claim.
