UTC Star Party at Clarence T. Jones Observatory
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – UTC hosted its final Star Party of the year at the Clarence T. Jones Observatory this evening. All were invited for a night in space.
The evening was full of exciting events including an astronomy lecture on Space Volcanoes and amazing planetarium shows.
Because the night was clear enough, a unique opportunity to view space through the university’s historic telescope was available for an out of this world experience.
Astronomer Clarence T. Jones designed the facility, and it was opened to the public in 1938. In 1944, the facility was leased to the University for a 99-years and astronomy was added to the University Curriculum.
