Out of control fire takes over local grocery store
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – While most of us were sound asleep, firefights worked tirelessly to try to put out a local fire this morning. Two different structures were affected by this fire including a Grocery store.
Just after 1 AM, a 911 call was made reporting a building on fire. Firefighters quickly responded and discovered a fire in a grocery store and launched an interior attack.
Additional crews joined, but the fire progressed quickly, and a roof partially collapsed.
The situation was deemed too dangerous for CFD personnel to remain inside.
A local, Timothy Smith, was asked about what he said late last night. Here is what he told News 12. “It was a fire, it burst up the attic or ceiling like it was an explosion and then the ceiling came down. My friend was asleep inside the building, and he received a little burn. The fire department got here and they couldn’t get it out. There were so many chemicals in other parts of the building.”
We now know the store, Tienda Lidervision, and an indoor soccer facility were tragically affected by this fire. Aerials were set up to aid in dousing the flames for both buildings.
Fortunately, there were no injuries.
