Sons of Confederate Veterans file new lawsuit over Stone Mountain Memorial

Original Flag Terrace Memorial

ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – The Sons of Confederate Veterans have filed a new lawsuit over their continuing battle to keep memorials at Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta.

The latest suit involves the Memorial Flag Terrace.

The Terrace displays the United States flag plus historical flags of the Confederacy.

It was put at the base of the trail to mark the 100th anniversary of the Civil War in 1964.

But the Memorial was moved to a new site out of view of most visitors in May.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans says the organization now running the park will not talk to them about how to make the Memorial more visible.

The Park is best known for its carving into the mountain of three Confederate leaders completed in 1972.

But the state owned park now emphasizes its family attractions and not its Civil War past.
