Four exciting projects set to take place this new year
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – As the calendar turns to 2025, Chattanooga stands poised for another year of transformation and progress. Our reporter Robert Hanley is highlighting four exciting projects set to begin this year.
A project, which started in July 2024, that involves the construction of the South Bend Stadium is set to continue progressing throughout 2025 and is expected to be completed by the first pitch of the 2026 Lookouts Season. With 78,000 tons of soil already been moved to create the bowl that will host the baseball field, City Engineer Billy Payne says while things are smooth so far, they are on edge for any potential setbacks.
The historic Tivoli Theatre hosted its wall-breaking ceremony this past year to commence a new phase of life to the performing arts center. The 25-million-dollar renovation project is expected to continue through 2025 and finish in 2026 bringing a new auditorium, improved ventilation system, an accessible elevator, more concession and retail options, bathrooms, and upgrades to support sustainability.
On March 17th, the reconstruction of Walnut Street Bridge is set to begin. With the bridge dating back to 1891 and in serious need of some care, this 35-million-dollar project will include an all-new LED lighting system to improve visibility, integrated security cameras to ensure safety, and also repainting, sanding, and structuring the beaming. Mayor Tim Kelly’s office stated that the work is expected to take around 18 months.
Last, in our highlight of projects, a new location was proposed for a new federal courthouse in Chattanooga. The General Services Administration announced that they are evaluating a site off of Vine Street which is currently a block away from the current Hamilton County Courthouse. The G-S-A is still considering other buildings/spaces for the project. The proposed courthouse would be approximately 190,700 square feet and include seven courtrooms, nine chambers, and 40 secured parking spaces.
