Gas Prices to Drop in 2025, But Experts Warn of Spring Spike

After years of soaring prices, the cost of gasoline is finally taking a dip. In fact, Americans are expected to save over $12 billion on fuel this year.

GasBuddy’s 2025 Fuel Price Outlook predicts that by December, gas prices could drop as low as $2.89 per gallon, offering significant savings for drivers.

“Thankfully, consumers are spending a little less on gasoline in 2025 than we saw in 2024. We project the yearly national average will fall to $3.22 per gallon, down from the $3.33 per gallon we saw in 2024,” said Patrick De Haan with Petroleum Analysis.

However, prices may rise again in the spring. In April, the national average is expected to climb to $3.53 per gallon, driven by seasonal demand.

so, while 2025 brings some relief at the pump, experts say fluctuations in price are still possible.

The national average is projected to start at $3.06 per gallon, rising in February and March before peaking in April. During that time, the daily average could reach as high as $3.67 per gallon, with the monthly average for April expected to be exactly $3.60—representing the highest prices of 2025,” said Patrick
