Shelters are opening their doors to those needing somewhere warm to go

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – With temperatures expected to plummet into the teens tonight, local shelters in Chattanooga are opening their doors to help vulnerable individuals and families stay safe from the extreme cold.

Temperatures tonight could dip well below freezing, and with wind chills making it feel even colder, emergency responders are reminding everyone to stay inside if possible.

Those who are experiencing homelessness or lack access to shelter are urged to reach out immediately to these resources.

Places like the Chattanooga Rescue Mission are prepared to offer overnight accommodations. In addition to providing a warm bed, the shelters will offer meals, hot drinks, and support services for those in need. These efforts come as local agencies work around the clock to ensure that no one is left out in the cold.

The weather is expected to remain frigid over the next few days, with wind chills making conditions even more dangerous.

As we prepare for another night of freezing temperatures, authorities are urging everyone to check on elderly neighbors, friends, and family members, especially those who live alone and may not have access to heating.

For those who may be concerned about loved ones, Chattanooga’s 211 helpline can connect people with additional resources, including transportation to shelters. You can also visit the shelters directly or call for more information on available services.

Stay safe, stay warm, and be sure to check in on those in the community who may need help.
