TDOT provides update on road conditions after snow storm
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF)-The Tennessee Department of Transportation is providing an update on road conditions after the snow.
“The sun is out today. Temps have warmed up a little bit, so some of that residual snow left over on some of the shoulders of our interstates and state routes may have melted, and there is definitely a possibility for refreeze or some of that, if and when temps drop below freezing,” said Rae-Anne Bradley Communications Officer for TDOT.
According to News 12’s Chief Meteorologist Austen Onek melting snow in the higher elevations will refreeze overnight causing slick spots on the roads.
Although the snow looks to melt on the roadways in Hamilton County. Bradley explains why it is important to be careful traveling.
“Safety is a priority here at the Tennessee Department of Transportation, you know, we want to make sure that drivers get to their destination safely. And so we’re doing our part by getting these roads clear and keeping these roads clear, and we need drivers to do their part. So if you see any of our crews out treating you know, any problem spots or issues that arise on our roadways just to move over, slow down, give them plenty of space to do their jobs,” said Bradley.
TDOT encourages folks to be aware of black ice on the interstates.
For that, drivers are advised to drive with caution.
Bradley says Crews will also be on standby to help assist driving in the leftover snowy conditions.
“As the snow continues to melt there still might be some residual slushy spots or a patch of black ice here or there, so we just really want to encourage folks to take it slow,” Bradley stated.
And Bradley believes if you are traveling, the message is simple..
“Do not drive distracted. Leave plenty of room between yourself and the vehicle in front of you, so you have plenty of reaction time. Just continue to be very careful and use extreme caution when you are out on our roadways,” Bradley concluded.
