Lookouts partnering with Tivoli Foundation to bring concerts to Erlanger Park
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Take me out to the… concert.
That’s what many Chattanoogans might soon be singing in relation to Chattanooga’s newest venue.
The Chattanooga Lookouts made a joint announcement with the Tivoli Foundation Thursday that they will begin booking concerts at the new ballpark.
They say these concerts could hold anywhere from 6,000-15,000 people, with stages brought in to be placed on the field.
Tivoli Foundation President/CEO Nick Wilkinson said, “We know there’s probably the appetite for some larger shows, and that this venue and the Lookouts and Erlanger Park is absolutely more than equipped to handle what our community needs right now.”
The Tivoli Foundation will book the concerts that occur within the stadium, as they say the ability to utilize a larger, newer venue is key to getting bigger shows.
Their peak capacity between the Memorial Auditorium and soon to be reopened Tivoli Theatre is 3,500 people.
Wilkinson said, “We believe there is the capacity to do some larger shows maybe 3,4,5,6 times a year and so this allows us to work with this great partner in this beautiful new facility that is absolutely equipped to handle those larger concerts, but do it in a responsible way that really I think can allow our community to continue to grow our music entertainment ecosystem.”
This announcement comes weeks after Urban Story Ventures announced their plans for a 12,500 seat amphitheater to come to The Bend on the Westside.
Lookouts owner Jason Freier says Thursday’s announcement is unrelated to that.
Freier said, “We were talking about concerts 3,4,5 years ago as this project was being publicly discussed and as I mentioned during my remarks, we’ve been doing concerts at our other venues for close to 20 years now.”
He added that so far with the new ballpark, the Lookouts are leading AA baseball in attendance and would be in the top third of AAA baseball attendance.
Freier believes adding these additional events will place Erlanger Park ahead of schedule in generating the sales tax revenue needed to pay for itself.
He said, “I believe that we are well on pace to exceed the projected sales tax revenue, and to help make sure those bonds are covered.”
Wilkinson says they are still working out the details on who that first concert will be and when that will be at Erlanger Park
