Golden Apple Award: Lauren Gillot, North Hamilton Elementary School

SALE CREEK, TN (WDEF) – Hard-working, caring and understanding, those are the superlatives that parents use to describe Lauren Gillot. Every morning, she greets her students at North Hamilton Elementary with a smile right when they walk through the door. That’s the kind of teacher we love to feature in our Golden Apple report.

Jacquie Hauth is the Principal at North Hamilton Elementary.

She exclaims, “Miss Gillott is an amazing teacher. She has gotten these kids where they canread already, right? You guys reading?”

“Yes!” replies a group of very young students.

Hauth continues, “She watches after them. She’s just great. She makes sure everything goes well for them. She loves them, supports them, and she’s great to support her parents as well. We love Ms. Gillott a lot.”

When asked to describe herself, Ms. Gillott says, “I am a wife, a mother, and a teacher. And I love getting to come here every day and teach the kids.

News 12 Chief Photographer David Moore asked, “Did you always want to be a teacher?”

Gillott replied, “From the time I was in second grade, because of my second-grade teacher. I love getting to watch the kids grow. It’s amazing, from when they come in the beginning of the year, to the end of the year; and just watching that growth.”

So, David asked a dozen kids.

Here are their responses:

“I don’t know.”

“I like her with hot chocolate.”

“I like how her teaches us math and reading.”

“For to help us do our work.”

“I love her.”

David Moore then asked Ms. Gillott, “What do you want them to remember about you as a teacher when they move on?”

She concluded, “Just how much I love them and support them and that they can do anything now you want to tell them to go to there.”
