New group of chimpanzees donated to the Chattanooga Zoo

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The Yerkes National Primate Research Center at Emory University announced Tuesday the donation of 7 chimpanzees to the Chattanooga Zoo.

This will be the second time the research center has donated chimpanzees to our local zoo.

Yerkes officials say they plan to transfer the animals to the Chattanooga Zoo this summer.

Chattanooga Zoo staff has made a few changes to the current exhibit to accommodate more chimpanzees.

At first there were only 2 chimpanzees, but soon there will be more!

“We are excited to see how dynamic the exhibit will be with the larger group of chimpanzees,” says Dardenelle Long, Chattanooga Zoo president and CEO. “With multiple viewing windows to indoor and outdoor exhibits, guests will be able to observe our new group from many different angles," she continues.

There will be a Members only first viewing of the chimps on Thursday, June 25th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Chattanooga Zoo will officially unveil the new additions to the public on Saturday, June 27th, and they’ll celebrate with a Chimpanzarie Party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
