Struggling animal shelter targeted by vandals; Animals unharmed
According to HES executive director Bob Citrullo, vandals caused thousands of dollars worth of damage and stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
Authorities believe the break-in happened sometime between 8 P.M. Monday night and 6 A.M. Tuesday morning.
Crooks reportedly entered the property through a small opening in the security gates located at the back of the property.
Once on the property, Citrullo said is looked like the vandals kicked in a door to the main building then stole a giant television set that was used to showcase the animals on video.
The vandal’s reportedly made their way to the second floor where they broke down a door to one of the main offices. Once inside the office, Citrullo said it appeared they ransacked the room in search of documents before stealing a laptop computer.
Another building on the property was also broken into. Thieves stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment including a brand new air conditioner and compressor from a second floor room that was used to groom animals.
Given the size and weight of those two pieces of equipment, authorities believe multiple people may have been involved.
"You would have to have at least two people to move the air compressor and air conditioner to get them out of here; I’m guessing it would have to be at least a minimum of two people but by gut tells me it was probably a few more than that," Citrullo said.
Despite the damages and thefts, all of the animals have been accounted for and were reportedly unharmed.
