Deadly Storm Ravages Grundy County

GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Last night, a powerful storm system swept through Grundy County, Tennessee, leaving a trail of significant damage in its wake.

The community of Palmer was particularly hard-hit, with reports of extensive structural damage.

In a neighboring area, a resident reported that the storm’s force tore the roof off his barn, damaged two vehicles, and displaced a trailer by 25 feet, causing it to collide with another structure.

The Gruetli-Laager Fire Department confirmed that the damage occurred during the severe weather event on Saturday afternoon.

This storm was part of a larger severe weather outbreak that affected multiple states across the South and Midwest.

A powerful storm system swept through multiple U.S. states on March 15, 2025, resulting in at least 36 fatalities and widespread destruction.

The affected states include Missouri, Mississippi, Texas, Kansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Missouri was particularly hard-hit, experiencing multiple tornadoes that led to twelve deaths. In Kansas, a severe dust storm caused a multi-vehicle collision, resulting in eight fatalities.

The storms also caused extensive property damage, leaving thousands without power across the affected regions.

The National Weather Service had issued a tornado watch for several counties in Tennessee, including Grundy County, indicating favorable conditions for tornado development.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and stay updated on weather conditions, as cleanup efforts begin and assessments of the full extent of the damage continue.
