Former Dade County Sheriff Indicted

Dade County, GA (WDEF)- Former Dade County Sheriff Patrick Cannon was indicted by a Grand Jury Thursday on 23 charges pertaining to the personal use of public funds and more.

Cannon is charged with: 

• Violation of Oath by a Public Officer
• Theft by Conversion 
• Criminal Attempt- Theft by Conversion 
• Making a False Statement 
• Filing False Documents 
• Insurance Fraud

The indictment says he knowingly used public funds several times to buy personal items from Men’s Wearhouse and JCPenny and also several times paid for his personal family plan cellphone account.

Some charges also stem from Cannon reportedly lying on an accident report.

A formal gag order has been issued regarding this case.
