Police looking for domestic violence suspect after early morning Brainerd SWAT standoff
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- A tense situation unfolded in a Brainerd neighborhood early Friday morning.
A SWAT standoff that caused some roads near Brainerd High School to shut down.
However, that suspect is still on the run at this time.
Before 5 a.m. Friday morning, Chattanooga Police received a call about a domestic violence incident on Tomahawk Trail when things escalated.
CPD Assistant Chief Danny Jones said, “As we were speaking with the victim, we noticed, our officers along with the victim telling us that someone was still inside. The suspect was still inside.”
However, that suspect would not communicate with police, causing a standoff with SWAT units present.
Jones said, “We tried numerous times to make contact with the individual that was inside of the residence. However, the suspect was not in the residence after all of the efforts that we have made to actually take the individual into custody. There are warrants that are currently out for the suspect.”
Neighbors in this area say they heard loud explosions at roughly 5 to 6 a.m. Friday morning.
Assistant Chief Jones says this is very standard in a SWAT situation such as this.
He said, “We have different tactics that we utilize, and a lot of that is for us specifically is trying to make contact with people that are, whoever the residents is or the surrounding area, fill in the blank.”
Police say there is no active threat to the public as this is a domestic violence incident.
The identity of that suspect has not been provided at this time.
SWAT cleared the area around 9:30 Friday morning.
