Hug-a-Bunny Brings Springtime Joy to Chattanooga Zoo
It’s a springtime tradition that lets kids and adults alike cuddle up with adorable bunnies—without the long-term commitment of pet ownership.
The Chattanooga Zoo recently hosted its beloved “Hug-a-Bunny” event, giving families the chance to enjoy hands-on experiences including bunny petting zones, festive crafts, and photo ops with the Easter Bunny. The event is more than just fun—it’s about education and building empathy.
“We kind of came up with the idea because around Easter, a lot of parents and grandparents would get rabbits for their kids—not realizing that rabbits are a big responsibility,” said Jake Cash, Marketing Director at the Chattanooga Zoo. “A lot of the time they’re not quite as cuddly as cats and dogs, so people didn’t know exactly what they were getting into.”
Rather than encouraging impulse pet purchases, the event gives guests a way to interact with rabbits and learn more about their needs in a safe, informed setting.
“We educate about pet ownership—specifically rabbit ownership,” Cash added. “It’s about creating a connection with animals that informs everything we do at the zoo.”
Zoo officials emphasize that animals aren’t just holiday surprises—they’re lifelong companions who deserve proper care and consideration.
