Upcycled Art Event Sparks Creativity

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Today at the Warehouse Row Pavilion, Chattanooga celebrated Arts Week and Earth Week with a hands-on, upcycled art experience.

Community members joined Artist J Baker to complete “Terra the Turtle,” a sculpture made entirely from recycled materials collected along the Chattanooga Riverfront.

The event featured student-designed bicycle art and live music.

Esther Lovingood, River City Company Programs and Communications Manager, told News 12 that she “think(s) having that human aspect where people can interact with something it makes them relate to the cause a bit more.”

“It makes them see what impact they’re having directly on the environment, and it can also help him to see how they can make a difference and make some positive changes.”

Attendees also had a chance to review and give feedback on the city’s draft designs for Riverfront Park including plans for a new turtle-themed playground structure.
