Home for sale leads to bizarre animal cruelty case

House hunting couple immediately calls the authorities

LAFAYETTE, Georgia (WDEF) – A House-hunting trip in Walker County has ended with five arrests for animal cruelty.

It started when a couple viewing the home alerted authorities to multiple animals in distress.

James Delbert Fields, Miriam Fields, Britni Fields, Marion Lopez and Melodie Lopez all face cruelty to animal charges.

The couple saw dogs and cats living in atrocious conditions in the hom on Highway 1-51.

They even spotted a dead ferret and a rabbit in crates plus two dead goats.

Animal control officers ended up removing dogs, cats, horses, goats, donkeys, a sheep and a pony from the property.

So instead of being sold, the home has now been condemned.
