Students Earn Award for Full Voting Registration
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – One local high school is being recognized for going above and beyond in preparing students for civic responsibility.
Lookout Valley High School is now among a select group of Tennessee schools to receive the Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Award, a statewide honor recognizing schools that register 100 percent of eligible students to vote.
The Tennessee Secretary of State’s office presented the award Tuesday morning in a ceremony at the school.
The initiative encourages civic engagement by targeting students who will be 18 years old on or before the next election.
The Anne Dallas Dudley Awards, initiated by the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office in 2021, honors high schools that achieve high levels of voter registration among eligible students.
This achievement not only reflects the dedication of the school’s staff, but also a new generation ready to make their voices heard at the ballot box.
It shows that students are not only learning about government in the classroom but are also actively engaging in the democratic process.
The Anne Dallas Dudley Award is presented each year to schools across the state. Lookout Valley is one of just a few in the region to receive the top gold-level recognition.
