Change needed to prevent another tragedy

Saturday morning we added a 5th victim to the list from Thursday’s tragedy, a day, that it is hard to find the right words to describe.

"Over the past several days, the first thing that comes to mind is extreme sadness," expressed Congressman Chuck Fleischmann.

Fleischmann talked about how we as a community can begin to pick up the pieces.

"We are going to have to get to the bottom of this, because this should not happen in America."

The Congressman believes that our military personnel should be armed both on and off bases in order to be able to protect themselves.

"Not only am I on record for arming them before this tragedy, but we are going to work to try and ensure this never happens again."

In May a bill that would allow our military personnel to do just that was passed by the House of Representatives.

"That bill is in conference with the United States senate. Do you think it will pass now? I do."

Well, if the congressman is correct , that may not be the only change coming to protect our military personnel. He said that he spoke with the commandant of the marine corps on just that topic.

"I asked him. He said they have a task force looking at this right now. I know the army is looking at it right now."

Congressman Fleischmann believes it is time to look at the bigger picture and make sure to get it right next time.
