Disaster Prep Starts With Connection

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – In 2024 alone, the U.S. experienced 27 weather and climate disasters, each causing over a billion dollars in damage.

From hurricanes and wildfires to floods and tornadoes, no region was spared. Experts agree, emergency preparedness isn’t optional anymore.

It’s essential.

Having a clear plan helps families act quickly, make informed decisions, and stay safe when seconds matter.

Still, a new T-Mobile survey found that 34% of U.S. adults don’t have a communication plan for emergencies.

That’s despite the fact that most people now consider reliable mobile service just as essential as food and water during a crisis.

But being personally prepared is only part of the equation.

First responders, those who run toward danger, depend on reliable networks to do their jobs.

Many say network failure is one of their top concerns during disasters, when communication is absolutely critical.

Craig Martinez, a former police chief and National Public Safety Strategist, says dependable connectivity is no longer a luxury.

It’s a lifeline for both families and the frontline.
