Douthit Motor Sports Celebrates 40 Years of Jet Car Action at Brainerd Motorsports Park

This weekend, fans at Brainerd Motorsports Park got more than just a race—they witnessed a milestone. Douthit Motor Sports celebrated 40 years of jaw-dropping jet car performances, thrilling generations of fans with fire, speed, and showmanship.

What began as a small family-run operation has grown into one of the most recognized names in the jet car world. Known for their high-speed passes and flame-throwing dragsters, the Douthit crew has been a staple at Brainerd for four decades—and they made sure this celebration was one to remember.

David Douthit, who now leads the team, reflected on the journey with pride.

“This is our family’s 40th year running jet cars,” he said. “My dad had an exhibition wheel stand car when I was little, and in 1985 he bought the first jet car. I was 10—and believe it or not, this is my 32nd year driving, and I’m only 50 years old. I was the kid in kindergarten who wanted to be a racecar driver, and when I graduated high school, while my friends got cars and money and trips—I got a car license.”

From powerful jet car runs to fan meet-and-greets and special anniversary events, the atmosphere was electric. Longtime fans brought their kids and grandkids, all eager to feel the heat and hear the roar that only a jet dragster can deliver.

For the Douthit family, it’s not just about the speed—it’s about tradition. And after 40 years of lighting up the track, they show no signs of slowing down.
