GBI investigates deadly officer-involved shooting in Dalton
WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Authorities in Whitfield County are investigating an officer involved shooting in Dalton.
At 10:40 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2025, detectives with the Dalton Police Department’s (DPD) Drug Unit and the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) were conducting an undercover narcotics investigation in the River Road area.
According to WCSO, during that investigation, a man named Johnathan Zuccarini pointed a gun at detectives.
In response, WCSO and DPD personnel fired at Zuccarini.
He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting has since been turned over the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
DPD stated the detective has also been placed on a paid administrative leave.
