Wanted suspect arrested after pursuit ends near Amnicola Highway

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A man wanted out of Rutherford County was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after a police chase ended near the Chattanooga Navy Operations Center.

Around 1:35 p.m. on June 5, 2025, officers with the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) began chasing the suspect on I-75.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) joined the pursuit and successfully performed a PIT maneuver.

HCSO said the PIT maneuver stopped the vehicle near the Riverpark off of Amnicola Highway.

The suspect, later identified as Scott Gooden, ran from the car, jumped a fence, and entered restricted federal property at the Navy Operations Center, where he was

captured and arrested.

He was taken to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center, where he now faces the following charges:

  • Evading Arrest
  • Reckless Driving
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Aggravated Criminal Trespass
  • Aggravated Burglary

Gooden also had the following outstanding warrants in Murfreesboro:

  • Aggravated Stalking (2 counts)
  • Violation of an Order of Protection
  • Retaliation for Past Actions

Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett credited the arrest to the strong partnership between local agencies, saying:

“This was a joint pursuit and apprehension highlighting the partnership between the HCSO and the Chattanooga Police Department.  There’s a common phrase, you can’t outrun a radio, however, in Hamilton County, you won’t outrun partnerships between law enforcement agencies and our shared commitment to keeping our county safe.  Let me be clear, don’t run from law enforcement in Hamilton County.  I am grateful for the professional job performed everyday by law enforcement personnel across our county.”
