New certified tax rate presented to Hamilton County Commission

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  Commissioners questioned Hamilton County Property Assessor Marty Haynes on the new certified tax rate.

Haynes announced last week that this rate is one dollar and 51 cents per 100 dollars of assessed value.
He says this is the lowest countywide rate since World War II.
This is after a nearly 60 percent average hike in property values across the county.
If your property value rose above that 60 percent threshold, your annual property taxes will go up, and vice versa if you’re below that threshold.

Haynes said, “$220 dollars to a dual income family making good money may not be a big deal. But if you’re a widow lady living in East Ridge or Red Bank or Hixson or Murray Hills, that’s a big difference. It’s all relative as to your income and the value of your home. ”

The Commission will vote on the finalized certified tax rate next week.
