State agency suggests TBI build new crime lab in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A state agency is recommending that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) build a crime lab in Chattanooga.

This is part of a draft report on how to fix a shortage of forensic services across Tennessee.

Currently, local police have to ship out evidence to labs in Nashville and Knoxville.

However, the state is having difficulty keeping up with demand.

The report suggests that they simply need more lab space.

Building new labs in each of the three divisions of Tennessee appears to be their solution.
