WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) —  A woman from Dalton was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Friday morning on I-75 northbound.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) said troopers responded around 6:44 a.m. on June 20, 2025 to the crash near mile marker 331 in Whitfield County.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 73-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri, was traveling north in the left lane.

At the same time, a 2001 Toyota Tacoma, driven by a 25-year-old Dalton woman, was heading north in the right lane.

Both vehicles attempted to merge into the center lane.

Video from the GDOT shows the Toyota swerved right, then overcorrected, moving into the path of the Jeep, which had returned to the left lane.

The Jeep struck the Toyota, hitting its left rear side.

The impact caused the Toyota to spin counterclockwise and overturn.

The Toyota landed on its roof and struck the median guardrail.

Both vehicles came to rest in the left emergency lane, with the front of the Jeep on top of the overturned Toyota.

The driver of the Toyota, later identified as Jocelyn Gutierrez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

All northbound lanes were closed from 7:10 a.m. to 9:18 a.m. as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash.
