RELIANCE, Tenn. (WDEF) —  Hamilton County personnel taking part in Swiftwater Rescue Training in Reliance got a chance to put their skills to the test when a real-life scenario occurred.

Over the weekend, personnel with the Hamilton County Officer of Emergency Management (HCOEM) and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) were training to enhance coordination and response for water-based emergencies.

After the training was over, officials were flagged down for a real-life water rescue.

According to HCOEM, three kayakers had been stranded on a rock across the river for over two hours.

HCOEM, HCSO, and Etowah Fire Rescue personnel deployed an inflatable raft and safely crossed the river to rescue the three kayakers.

“This incident is a testament to the value of joint training exercises.  Because of the collaboration and teamwork between agencies, we were able to respond quickly and effectively to a real-world emergency, ultimately bringing everyone home safely.”

Chief C.J. Davis, Hamilton County Special Operations

Thankfully, no injuries occurred during this incident.
