City Weighs Asphalt Plant Proposal

SODDY DAISY, Tenn. (WDEF) – A proposed asphalt plant has drawn strong opposition from residents, who said there was no hardship or valid reason for its location.

The developer explained why he chose the Thrasher Pike site, citing convenience and potential economic benefits.

But many neighbors disagreed, raising concerns about pollution, increased traffic, and the plant’s proximity to local schools and neighborhoods.

During the meeting, residents packed the chambers to voice their opinions.

Several spoke passionately about how the project could affect air quality, student safety, and property values, highlighting strong community opposition.

After hearing from both sides, Soddy-Daisy Planning Comission denied the developer’s request for variances to build the plant at that location.

However, the developer still has the option to appeal the board’s decision, which could bring the issue back before city officials in the future.
