Multiple agencies respond to possible active shooter at UTC
UPDATE (3:06 p.m., 8/21/2025): UTC has issued an alert saying the campus is all clear.
Officials held a briefing to discuss the situation.

UPDATE (1:47 p.m., 8/21/2025): UTC has sent another message via their alert system, stating:
“Law enforcement is completing a search of the campus. No threat has been identified at this time. Anyone located in the University Center, Library, or Fletcher Hall, please reply to this message with your location.”
News 12 has personnel on scene at UTC, and are working to learn more at this time.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to a possible active shooter at UTC.
UTC has sent out several message via their alert system, stating:
“Possible active shooter in University Center or Library. Run. Hide. Fight.”
“All individuals on the UTC campus should remain on lookdown. Do not move unless directed by law enforcement. Campus facilities are currently being searched by police.”
The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) has stated they’re working with the UTC Police Department to confirm Shots Fired reports that were called in.
No victims have been located at this time.
Nearby Hamilton County Schools have been placed on lockdown.
