Mother in Court Following School Incident
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County deputies say a mother is facing charges after an incident at Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy last month.
On the morning of Tuesday, August 19, a student went to the school office reporting that her mother, identified as Misty Sue Coleman, became upset after she missed the bus.
The student told staff that while exiting the vehicle, her mother accelerated before she was fully outside, striking her ankle.
Deputies reviewed school surveillance video, which corroborated the student’s account.
The footage showed the rear passenger door still open as the vehicle drove away.
Following the investigation, Coleman was charged with aggravated child abuse or neglect.
She made her initial court appearance today, and a court date has been scheduled for late October.
Because the case involves a juvenile, no further details are being released at this time.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says the case is still under investigation.
