Navy Sailor Remembered as a Loving Father and Husband
And everyone that knew them says family was everything to them.
"Everybody has seen the video but that’s the way they were," said Tracy Hames who is the manager of Sport Clips on Gunbarrel Road where Randall Smith’s wife Angie works. "I mean they did everything together. If they went to Costco they went with the whole crew."
U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith will finally be laid to rest Tuesday at the Chattanooga National Cemetery after funeral services at the First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe.
Thousands are expected to honor the life of a man known for his love of country…but mostly for his love of family.
"We’d always laugh at him because he’d have the girls with him and they’d just trail right behind him," said Hames. "And Angie was forever showing us pictures of the three of him and all their whole family together."
Petty Officer Smith fought hard for his life for two days following the shooting, taking hundreds of units of blood, before succumbing to his wounds Saturday morning July 18th.
"I think that’s what makes it so hard," said Hames. "He’s so young and they thought that they had 40 years together and it didn’t turn out that way."
All the heroes of July 16th will forever be a part of Chattanooga’s fabric.
