News 12 launches weekend series for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time dedicated to honoring survivors, promoting prevention, and highlighting local resources that bring hope and healing to families across our region.

Throughout the month, News 12 will share stories each weekend focused on awareness and empowerment, from survivor experiences to community events hosted by the Family Justice Center.

This weekend’s feature centers on one woman who turned her story of survival into a mission of advocacy.

Kelsey Bell, the President of Voices, sat down with News 12 for an exclusive interview to share her journey from escaping abuse to rebuilding her life and helping others find safety.

Her children now call her their hero, but Bell says the real transformation came after she broke free.

“Creating a safe life for them, learning how to stand on my own two feet, and to provide for myself, to protect myself and them, those are the things that I can take ownership of,” Bell said.

Today, Bell leads Voices, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence and raising awareness about the resources available to those in need. She hopes her story inspires others to know that recovery and strength are possible, even after trauma.

Make sure to tune into News 12 this weekend to hear Kelsey Bell’s full story and learn how you can make a difference right here at home.
