The Green Eyes Festival returns to Chickamauga
CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. (WDEF) – The Green Eyes Festival made its return to downtown Chickamauga, celebrating local folklore and community spirit.
The event highlights the legend of Ole’ Green Eyes, a ghost said to haunt the Chickamauga Battlefield.
The story has been passed down for generations, capturing the imagination of residents and visitors across Northwest Georgia and Southeast Tennessee.
This year’s festival once again brought the community together with a mix of spooky fun, featuring live music, storytelling, costume contests, and dozens of local vendors.
Festivalgoer Jamie McCurry says it’s a family tradition they look forward to every year.
“We like to see all the little vendors, see what they have for sale, maybe get a T-shirt or two,” McCurry said. “We were here last year, and it’s just a great place to walk around and have fun.”
The festival’s atmosphere blends the eerie with the enjoyable, honoring the area’s ghostly folklore while supporting small businesses and local artists.
Children laughed while trick-or-treating between booths, and storytellers captivated crowds with tales of Green Eyes, the mysterious spirit said to roam the battlefield at night.
The event also serves as a reminder of Chickamauga’s deep historical roots and its love for storytelling.
The celebration brought countless opportunities for families to make memories and enjoy an evening filled with laughter.
And judging by the crowd’s excitement, it’s safe to say everyone had a hauntingly good time at this year’s Green Eyes Festival.
