RINGGOLD, Ga. (WDEF) — Ringgold’s Festival of Flags will raise over 2,000 American flags and memorial crosses to honor fallen soldiers who called Catoosa County home.

The display is a biannual festival in Ringgold, starting in May to commemorate Memorial Day, then again in November for Veterans Day.

Next month’s Festival of Flags will begin on November 3 and run through November 17.

The flags and crosses will line portions of Highway 41, Highway 151, and a majority of streets within downtown Ringgold.

This event has been held in Ringgold since the 1970s, with the number of flags and crosses being put on display growing with each year.

Earlier in the year, 2,129 veterans were honored during the Memorial Day festival, some of which served as far back as World War I.

The Festival of Flags is organized entirely by volunteers that cover several roles, such as the seamstresses that repair damaged flags and those that mark and place the flags themselves.

The City of Ringgold encourages residents and visitors to view the patriotic display by driving or walking through the decorated areas.

A list of flag locations will be available once the event begins on the City of Ringgold website at cityofringgoldga.gov.

To obtain a flag for a loved one, a Memorial Flag Information Form is available on the website as well.

The City also asks the public to volunteer for the Festival of Flags by contacting Gilbert Childers (865-300-7057) or Pete Pedigo (423-240-9034).
