ChattLab Makerspace hosts Community Repair Café

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The ChattLab Makerspace is helping residents save money and reduce waste through its community repair café, an event where volunteers work to fix everyday items that people might otherwise throw away.

Individuals can bring household goods or electronics to the workshop, and volunteers will attempt to repair them.

Participants can also bring ideas for new creations and receive guidance on how to bring those projects to life.

Volunteer Moth Martin explained how the event works.

“Twice a month we run this event where you can bring in whatever you have that is broken and we will try to help you fix it. We will work with you and walk you through what we are doing as we troubleshoot and repair your item. We want to show you that you can actually work on your own things, and it is not that hard.”

Organizers say the goal of the repair café is to reduce waste, teach practical skills, and help community members hold onto the items that matter to them.
