Gas Prices Plummeting

Chattanooga (WDEF) – Gas prices have now dropped for 18 days in a row (25 in TN & GA).

And the drop is the fastest we’ve seen since January.

Over that time, the national average has plummeted 12 cents a gallon, the lowest price we’ve seen at this time of year since 2009.

“It feels good to see gas prices drop during the middle of the busy summer driving season,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Millions of people are hitting the roads right now and these gas savings should make their trips more affordable.”

The price now is about 86 cents cheaper than it was this time last year.

Oil prices dropped sharply in July on oversupply concerns for the second year in a row.

And gas prices should continue to drop to catch up with the falling price of crude oil.

Triple A predicts we could see another 15 cent drop in the short term.

The current average price is $2.37 in Tennessee & $2.50 in Georgia, according to AAA.
