Murray County Animal Shelter closed for cat intake

MURRAY COUNTY — The Murray County Animal Shelter says they are currently closed for cat intake.

They say they are overwhelmed housing approximately 80 cats and kittens.

Their cat room is full, and they say they have overflow animals housed in crates throughout the office.

In a statement shared on Facebook they say:

“Our shelter is currently overwhelmed. We are housing approximately 80 cats and kittens. Our cat room is full, and we have overflow animals housed in crates throughout the office. At this time, we have no available space for additional cats or kittens.
Because of this crisis, we are CLOSED FOR CAT INTAKE until we are able to significantly reduce our current population through adoptions and transfers.
We urgently need our community to take responsibility for the animals they are feeding and allowing to reproduce. Every unaltered cat contributes to more unwanted litters, more suffering, and an already overburdened shelter system.
If you are looking to add a feline companion to your family, we have many wonderful cats and kittens available for adoption for $75.”

Their adoption fee includes:

Mandatory spay/neuter appointment
Vaccinations
Flea and tick prevention
Deworming

Adoptions are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
