Blood Assurance in Critical Need of Donations
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Blood Assurance is offering extended hours and an incentive through November 30 to encourage the community to donate blood.
From November 23 to November 30, O-negative blood donors and platelet donors “will receive a $50 eGift card as part of a one-week effort to boost donations ahead of and immediately following Thanksgiving,” Blood Assurance says.
“Thanksgiving week is historically one of the hardest times for blood donation. Travel, school breaks, and holiday plans pull people away from donating, yet patients in our hospitals still need blood and platelets. This incentive is our way of thanking donors for stepping up when it matters.”
– Garry Allison, Senior Vice President of Operations for Blood Assurance said.
The following 4 Chattanooga-area locations will be having extended hours and will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m on Sunday, November 30 to encourage the community to donate.
- Chattanooga Donor Center
- North River Donor Center
- Gunbarrel Donor Center
- Cleveland Donor Center
During this critical period donors will receive:
- $50 eGift card for all O-negative blood donors
- $50 eGift card for all platelet donors
- A long-sleeve holiday “Sleighin’ It” t-shirt for every donor, while supplies last
O-negative is the universal blood type used when there is no time to determine a patient’s blood type, Blood Assurance says.
Platelets are also vital for cancer patients, NICU babies, and those with blood disorders. They expire in 5 days, making holiday donation slowdowns a critical time for donations, Blood Assurance says.
