Two-alarm apartment fire sent two people to the hospital overnight

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Saturday night at 12:11 a.m., the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) responded to 500 W. Martin Luther King Boulevard after 911 received multiple alerts from the high-rise tower’s fire alarm system.

According to CFD, they found that a fire in the trash chute had filled multiple floors with smoke.

A second alarm was called to bring additional crews to the scene to assist with ventilation to remove smoke from several floors, as well as the evacuation of residents.

The large operation was very labor-intensive due to the size of the apartment tower.

Hamilton County EMS was also on scene to assist with the response.

By 12:41 AM, the fire was out and ventilation continued

Two residents were transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

One firefighter was checked for exhaustion but was not transported.

Five residents were displaced by the fire, but property management indicated that they would be placed in other rooms in the tower.
