Driver rescued after vehicle goes off Signal Mountain

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN. (WDEF) – On Sunday, the Signal Mountain Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle accident on North Palisades Drive around 3:33 p.m.

According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, several agencies worked together for an hours-long response after a car plunged off Signal Mountain, trapping the injured driver and sparking a complicated extrication and rope rescue.

The Chattanooga Fire Department and Walden’s Ridge Emergency Service also assisted in the rescue.

The victim’s Honda SUV was about 300 feet down the embankment, and she was trapped inside with serious injuries.

Firefighters set up a rope system and made their way down the bluff and stabilized the vehicle.

They then were able to free the victim from the wreck, package her, and haul her up the side of the mountain.

By 6:30 p.m., rescuers got her up to Palisades, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to the hospital.
