New Sculpture will Honor Victims of July 16th Shooting

"I’m making a piece that is going to stand tall and reach for the sky," said sculptor Peter
Lundberg.

A  new sculpture is being added to the Sculpture Fields…The sculpture is going to be over 50 feet high and will be made from three materials, earth, concrete and steel.

"By making a mold right out of the earth here, it is built right on site.  It is made of cast concrete steel and earth, so it will have a little bit of Chattanooga soil on the surface of the piece."

The process of making these sculptures normally takes nearly 3 weeks, but thanks to a few pairs of helping hands, this one will be completed much quicker.

"Well, because I have a lot of help, it shouldn’t take more than a week, but I have a lot of people working on it."

The meaning behind this sculpture makes it very special, and while it won’t make the events of July 16th any easier for the families, Mr. Lundberg hopes this sculpture will help to continue to celebrate those brave servicemen.

"Some way, it is a way of saying that we need to celebrate their lives and doing that is the best way we can by doing something that is strong, and that we need to pay tribute to them in the best way we possibly can."

The sculpture will be raised on September 1st.  The public is invited to view the process.
