Local production ‘Where You Left Me’ films in Northwest Georgia

LAFAYETTE, GA. (WDEF) – Georgia is quickly becoming a go to destination for filmmakers, not only for large scale productions, but also for local storytellers bringing meaningful stories to the screen.

Filmmakers across the state are finding inspiration in small towns and familiar places, including right here in Northwest Georgia.

Actor David Joel Stevenson plays the lead role in the upcoming film Where You Left Me.

“Hi, I’m Johnny in Where You Left Me,” Stevenson said. “It’s hard not to give a lot away.”

In LaFayette, Georgia, that story is coming to life at an official filming location for the movie.

The project is being directed by Kenyon Travis Henry, who says the film explores deeply emotional themes.

“This film really is about heartbreak, about loss, and about overcoming death,” Henry said.

Stevenson says his character’s emotional journey is central to the story.

“Johnny is a guy who feels deeply,” Stevenson said. “He loves his family, he loves his girlfriend, and he experiences a lot of heartbreak and loss. The entire movie is really him processing difficult feelings, and sometimes not doing so great with those feelings.”

The small town atmosphere of Northwest Georgia has helped Henry bring his vision to life, with filming also taking place in Rossville and Ringgold.

“It’s been great to film here,” Henry said. “Everybody has been wonderful.

Local businesses have allowed us to come in and disrupt their lives a little bit. All of our films have a message that is meant to help people.”

Actors involved in the project say the film blends raw emotion with a sense of warmth and seasonal magic.

Actress Agnes Mayasari believes audiences will connect with the message.

“I think when people watch this, they will feel at ease,” Mayasari said. “Everyone struggles through life, and you are not alone.”

Stevenson says Georgia’s landscapes and communities are drawing increasing attention from filmmakers nationwide.

“A lot of people in Hollywood are starting to realize that places like Georgia are fantastic,” Stevenson said. “For Christmas movies especially, these towns already have the setting. You can use what’s here without building a set, and people are excited to be part of it. We’ve really appreciated everyone here.”

As productions like Where You Left Me continue filming across the region, Northwest Georgia is proving it has both the scenery and the heart to bring powerful stories to the big screen.
