Cleveland Police dealing with another sex scandal

CLEVELAND, Tennessee (WDEF) –The Cleveland Police Department finds itself in yet another sex scandal involving two officers.

Officer Carl Walls has been accused of raping a woman in Gatlinburg.

According to the alleged victim, it happened this past Sunday inside a cabin.

Several jurisdictions are examining the accusations to see if charges will be filed against the officer.

"At this time, I don’t know who exactly will be handling the investigation or if one has officially begun on the sexual assault allegation," said interim Cleveland Police Chief Mark Gibson.

During the course of an initial internal affairs investigation, Chief Gibson said his investigators discovered the link between Walls and the alleged victim.

"The only thing we know about her at this time is that she was involved in an extra-marital affair with Carl Walls," said Gibson.

Another officer identified as Chad Nave was reportedly with Walls in Gatlinburg when the woman said she was raped. Nave is not accused of rape but possibly violating a department policy that prohibits extra-marital activity.

"When we started looking into the admissions that officer Walls made about his relationship that he was having, it was brought to our attention about officer Nave also being involved in a relationship. We discovered both of them went up to Gatlinburg together and met individuals there," Gibson said.

This now becomes the third sex scandal Cleveland Police have had to deal with in the past several years.

"Anyone who use good judgement or halfway good judgment would understand what negative impact this is going to have. There’s no consideration taken for fellow officers,"Gibson said.

Walls and Nave are on paid leave while internal affairs investigates the facts in the case.
