Blount County mourns the death of a deputy killed on duty

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Blount County is mourning the death of Blount County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Justin Mowery who was killed in the line of duty.

He died from a car crash while working his patrol shift late Sunday afternoon.

Deputy Mowery was 30 years old.

He served as a security officer at University of Tennessee Medical Center before he pursued his desire to become a deputy sheriff with Blount County.

He began his career at the Blount county Sheriff’s Office in May 2020.

In December 2021, he earned a coveted spot on the Sheriff’s SWAT team and continued to serve until his death.
