What type of tax do we love to hate the most?
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – A new survey may surprise taxpayers in our region.
The folks at 5SarLoans.com conducted the poll to find out which kind of tax we hate the most.
And it wasn’t the income tax.
Tennesseans despise their Property taxes the most.
That is followed by their car registration tax and then the sales tax.
Tennessee doesn’t have an income tax after voters have repeatedly turned it down.
But in Georgia, where there is an income tax, the poll found that property taxes are still the most hated.
Alabama tax payers despise their sales tax the most.
Property taxes are traditionally charged by cities and counties against the property (your house) that you own.
An income tax is based on how much you make (we all pay federal income tax).
The sales tax is generally pennies added to the cost of just about everything you buy at the store.
That goes to both state and local governments.
The survey also asked other financial questions.
Our most common financial regret is not starting to save money earlier.
And the financial stress that keeps us up at night is mortgage payments on our homes.
