Planning America’s 250th Anniversary Celebration

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On July 4, 2026, the United States will mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. 

In Hamilton County, local organizers are preparing a series of events along the Tennessee Riverfront to celebrate this milestone and honor the contributions of all Americans.

Linda Moss Mines, Chattanooga-Hamilton County Historian and chair of the local America 250 Committee, highlighted the importance of including all voices. 

“Theres a lot of history that segmented but now we need to be certain all the lens together in our ultimate goal with celebrating America 250 are those those strings of liberty quality injustice that we need to make sure that we’re paying attention to every segment of society,” Mines stated. 

The committee, which includes more than 50 representatives from historical societies, community groups, and local institutions, meets monthly at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. 

Meetings are open to community members, and organizers encourage everyone to participate in planning and attending events.

The celebration will include partnerships with the Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors Department, the 2026 Armed Forces Parade, and other veteran-focused activities along the riverfront, ensuring a community-wide commemoration.
