Tips To Prepare for Cold Weather

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County is forecast to experience a stretch of cold weather this week, with overnight lows dropping below freezing in several areas. 

These temperatures can pose challenges for homes, pets, and vulnerable plants, making preparation important.

Residents are encouraged to take steps to stay safe and minimize potential damage. 

Bring pets indoors or provide adequate shelter, cover or move sensitive outdoor plants, and protect outdoor water lines. 

Small actions like letting faucets drip slowly or opening cabinet doors under sinks can help prevent pipes from freezing and bursting.

This is also an ideal time to make sure home heating systems are functioning properly, check that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries, and gather warm clothing, blankets, and other basic supplies.
