Cleveland Woman Makes Bail After Grand Jury Indictment
The arrest of 31 year old Kimberly Minor follows a TBI investigation involving a Cleveland police officer.
The case is slowly unfolding as various law enforcement agencies gather evidence.
CAPT. MARK GIBSON, ACTING CHIEF, AUGUST 7, 2015 "The only thing the know about her at this time Is that she was involved in an extra-marital affair with Carl Walls."
Investigators didn’t believe Kimberly Minor when she turned up at Skyridge Medical Center earlier this month and said she had been raped by the officer in Gatlinburg in Sevier county on July 31st.
ANDREW WATTS, 10th DISTRICT, ASST. DISTRICT ATTORNEY "After a review of that evidence our office decided to present the matter to the Bradley county grand jury yesterday, and they indicted Miss Minor on the charge of false report."
That turns out to be a class D felony, and Minor was placed under a 5-thousand dollar bond, which she made Wednesday night. If convicted Minor could go to jail for up to 4 years.
ANDREW WATTS "That report was made here in Bradley county. The TBI was consulted and referred to..to interview witnesses and gather evidence in this matter."
Another Cleveland officer, Chad Nave, was with Walls on that weekend in Gatlinburg. They are both on paid administrative leave while they face an internal affairs investigation.
OFFICER EVIE WEST, CLEVELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT "Even though Officer Walls was cleared criminally there, there are still internal affairs investigation that we’re handling here at the police department..that’s internal."
As for the charges against Minor, police say its a serious crime.
OFFICER EVIE WEST "What you’re saying, what you’re reporting…is hopefully the truth because there are definitely consequences of reporting something that’s not true. it’s a felony ..and you can be convicted of that."
